Little Brown Jug

336 William Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

What do you get when you mix a derelict heritage building in downtown Winnipeg with an ambitious renovation and then add some craft beer?  The answer is – the Little Brown Jug Brewing; a signature project by Design Shop Inc. Inspired by founder, Kevin Selch’s mandate, "Everything old will be old, everything new will be new", Design Shop rose to the challenge by creating an environment that did just that.  The group transformed what was originally the livery stables for City Hall into a trendy craft brewery and bar and grill. They repurposed old 100-year-old Douglas Fir boards found hanging between the existing steel trusses into the counter and benches and then pizzazzed up the view into the space (and of course back onto the street) by renewing the 64-foot span of storefront windows. By pushing some boundaries and adding a large dose of creativity, Design Shop’s build project - the Little Brown Jug Brewing - is one more reason why Winnipeg is the city people want to live in. Such a simple concept; just create an inviting space that connects the community, neighbors and the Red River and then douse it with great craft beer. What could be better!
