Repeat Design Shop clients and friends, Adam & Kirk, came to us with a desire to renovate their 2400 square foot midcentury modern split level home to express their dynamic and unique personalities, without being overly manicured.
Previously untouched by renovation, it was the perfect opportunity to give this home some Design Shop love and enhance the many original detailing that already existed.
We approached their home with curiosity, analyzing the space as a collective. We created a detailed floor plan guided by the behaviour of our clients and – as the avid hosts they are – knowing they would want to fully enjoy and use their home.
Over the course of four months and through an almost entirely virtual design process (thanks to Covid restrictions and lockdowns) we were able to provide intricate and thorough drawings that revamped the design of their home.
We opened up the wall that divided the original kitchen and dining spaces as well as the ceiling above the kitchen to reveal a dramatic vaulted ceiling that matched the adjacent room. We designed custom, bespoke millwork that showcased a comprehensive appliance garage, and an integrated fridge wall detail that read as a furniture piece. Feature shelving showcased art and their favourite “chachkies”
We transformed what was once the dining room into a lounge which truly catered to our clients lifestyle including an arched moment was detailed over the sofa to create the vibe of a room-within-a-room. Playful and personalized finishes were integrated throughout the space, with a nod to the art deco era through customized furniture.
The upper level renovation focused on the primary bedroom ensuite, with gentlemanly details, and moody, dark-on-dark finishes.
This project allowed us the chance to play with a palette of bold accents, elegant wood materials, and a curated collection of furniture and art. It embodies a classic mid-century feel while also grounding and integrating our client’s personal flair and style. A forever favourite in our books.
