The design of Deb’s 1940s home takes a holistic approach to wellness—it’s an agile space for relaxation, movement, community building and professional fulfilment. With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of her needs, Deb took several years to truly discover how she engaged with her space before embarking on the renovation. With the support of her team at Design Shop, Deb created a soft place to land, one that seamlessly flows from one room to the next, blending functionality with an elevated, minimalist aesthetic.

A generously sized kitchen offers the opportunity to cook, entertain guests and meet with colleagues. The large window brings the outside in, flooding the space with natural light and providing stunning views of the outdoor pool, sauna and garden. Key details in the kitchen include custom millwork and a smoked glass cabinet for Deb’s unique collection of crystal and fine china.

The TV room, affectionately known as “The Cave”, was designed as a sanctuary for Deb, giving her the opportunity to unwind and disconnect after a busy day. Vintage pieces were integrated with soft furnishings and contemporary elements, creating a layered design that is warm and inviting. The space is versatile, enabling Deb to move pieces of furniture to accommodate her daily yoga practice. During the renovation of this room, she discovered the fireplace’s original stone facade, deciding to make material adjustments elsewhere to incorporate it into the overall design.

The home doubles as an office for Deb’s Design Shop team. The neutral colour scheme provides the perfect backdrop for their interior design work, acting as a living lab for their projects and a space to explore their creativity. The home was always intended to evolve and transform over time. With Deb’s connections in the Winnipeg community, it’s no surprise that she was asked to start renting her home out as a creative content studio. Lately, she’s welcomed retailers, designers and artists into her home to photograph their work.

Despite facing challenges such as COVID, a cancer diagnosis and construction delays, Deb emerged from the renovation happy, healthy and with a home that truly reflects her personality as a designer and community driver.
