While “teardowns” are the growing trend in this historic neighbourhood, this beautiful and yet unpretentious home became a revival of what was - salvaging the old and pairing it with the new. An absolute miracle, fast tracked project, this home was done in collaboration with creative homeowner Sam Wheeler, Harris Builders, and our team in order to get this home up and running in time for game season!

This Spanish inspired, family centric home features a professional gym, sauna, steam room, golf simulator room, and chef’s kitchen to name a few, all bathed in a soft palette and natural finishes. The contemporary kitchen maintains clean lines with hidden panel ready appliances and creatively installed light fixtures, so that site lines were unobscured over the island. Custom hardware and show stopping neolith, book matched countertops create a dramatic chef’s kitchen statement, while an arched doorway with reeded glass leading to the pantry hides away storage while alluding to the activity beyond.

Secret push panel doors in the dining room that read like walls, lead to the home office. Knowing this wasn’t going to be the forever home of owners Sam and Blake Wheeler, former captain of the Winnipeg Jets, Deb wanted to leave a special takeaway, a souvenir of sorts from their time in Winnipeg. Sourced from local mid century modern furniture shop 84 1/2, the office features a Donahue chair. Affectionately known as the “WINNIPEG CHAIR”, these pieces were produced by Winnipeg designer Donahue in the late 1940s & early 1950s with the help of his architectural students at the University of Manitoba.

A formal living room with piano houses a 70’s inspired, Top Stitch fabricated, velvet corded fabric sectional. While Soriana Chairs, a Kelly Wearstler coffee table, custom sheers and artwork reflect the homeowners eclectic style and love of art.

With a seemingly impossible timeline, the project required a collaborative effort to see this show stopping home brought to life for the clients and their family. By enhancing the existing elements the results are timeless - classical in its Spanish inspired lines, yet brought to modern day through contemporary and clean detailing and eclectic styling.
